Donor Network West Airs Daring Organ Donation Commercial In Northern Nevada
The campaign presents TV viewers with the choice
(Reno, NV) April 1, 2019 – An edgy commercial now airing on television networks across Northern Nevada is changing the narrative about organ donation by focusing on those who die waiting for a transplant. The campaign is by Donor Network West, the federally designated organ procurement organization for Northern Nevada.
April is National Donate Life Month, dedicated to highlight the life-saving impact of organ donation. The 60-second television spot, which launched in March and runs through April, features a man in a hospital bed surrounded by eight individuals of various ages and ethnic backgrounds. As the patient’s heart monitor flatlines, the people around him disappear one by one from the scene.
“Every day people die waiting for an organ transplant. Eight lives lost or saved. Your choice,” reads the closing graphic. The commercial alludes to the fact that one organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people.
For over three decades, Donor Network West has served the Nevada community by connecting a donor’s gift to those in need. The tone of the television commercial, produced in collaboration with Reno-based marketing agency, KPS3, introduces a sense of urgency by putting the decision to save a life in the hands of the viewers. The commercial veers from more traditional organ donation themes, such as positive stories of organ recipients doing well post-transplant.
“The donation issue is critical. We tried something bold to bring attention to the 22 people who die every day in the U.S. waiting for an organ transplant. These are our moms, brothers, children, and friends,” says John Lilley, Nevada Regional Director for Donor Network West. “Donation affects everyone no matter your gender, race, age, income, political views or religion.”
The commercial directs viewers to visit Save8today.com, the campaign’s official landing page, where viewers can register to become organ donors and learn additional facts about donation.
